A SIGN OF PATRIOTISM

This design is given to you freely of

instructions and share with your
friends and families. If you feel
compelled, my only consideration
would be that a donation be made
through your local fire or police
department to aid the families
of those lost in this National tragedy.
If you are a member of any needlework
guild, you might consider using this
design as a workshop at one of your
meetings and have your members
participate in a fundraiser with the donations
made in the name of your local chapter.

TRANSFERRING THE DESIGN

Using the template and a permanent marker, count and draw the outside border. Please note, DO NOT trace the template, the design must be counted. The actual dimension of this design is 2" x 3". Notice that all lines are drawn on the thread or intersection. It isn't necessary to draw the stripes, these are shown for placement purposes only.

TEMPLATE

WHITE STRIPES

(Work the longest stripe just below the field of stars first. This will make the compensating and placement in the other stripes easier)

Starting with the Neon Rays N02, lay in a diagonal pattern across the white stripe as diagram 1.

Diagram 1

Using four plies of the Splendor Silk S800, begin to fill-in the stitch pattern as diagram 1A. When laying #3-4, slip #4 under the perpendicular band of Neon Rays being careful to not snag the thread.

Diagram 1A

Complete the white stripe with the 1/16 metallic ribbon as diagram 1B.

Diagram 1B

Complete all of the white stripes as diagrams 1-1B before moving on to the red stripes.

RED STRIPE

Working with four plies of Splendor S820, lay in a diagonal pattern across the top half of the stripe as diagram 2.

Diagram 2

Complete the stripe using the Neon Rays N22 as diagram 2A.

Diagram 2A

FIELD OF STARS

Working with five plies of Splendor S857, basketweave the background area of the stars.

Once the background has been stitched, you're then going to work the stars on top of the background and sharing the holes with the previously worked basketweave.

Place the first star as diagram 3 in the bottom right corner using the 1/16 metallic ribbon 032.

Work the small cross in the center first, and then work the numeric count.

Diagram 3

Once you have the first start in place, drag across the back and lay in the remaining three stars as diagram 3A.

OPTIONAL

Using a piece of yellow ribbon, tie a bow around the flag to signify your support for the members of our Armed Forces who are protecting our freedom..

FINISHING

This piece was designed as a pin, broach or scissor tassel. It is my sincere wish that it be worn or carried with pride for our country and the people who protect us, both civilian and military.

Have it finished with a hard back, slight puffed front and a twisted cord around the edges using the remaining red, white and blue silk. You may also have a small tassel made to hang from the bottom of the flag in red, white and blue.
