This series began with
the pansy which was designed to be finished as a pin
on the brim of a straw hat. It proved so popular, that
a whole series evolved. Over the course of the years,
I've seen many different creative uses for the flowers.
The poinsettia is spectacular worked entirely in beads
and assembled into a holiday evening bag. I once met
a lady who lived in a remodeled antebellum mansion in
the deep south. She had stitched 21 Calla Lilies and
had them arranged with silk magnolia blossoms in a centerpiece
for her entrance way. My model is no way near as spectacular,
but it does give you an idea how they can be arranged
in a silk arrangement. They also work well appliqués
in the center of pillows scattered over a sofa or bed.
Or have a collection of flowers assembled as a mobile
to brighten a dark corner.

Each flower measures approximately 5 inches in size
and has two inches of open canvas around each design
for a background stitch if desired. All designs are on 18 count canvas. Because they are
stitch painted, the models were worked entirely in Basketweave
(which is why there aren't any stitch guides available)
using a variety of threads, but an open stitch allowing
the paint to shadow through would also work well. Sorry,
color choices are not available.
