Sharon's Laying Tool – Personally my favorite. Two reasons: it's weighted and balanced, so I don't have to exert pressure to hold it and if you have arthritis you'll appreciate that. And the length; it cradles in my hand allowing me to use my fingers and still hold the laying tool, Saves time putting it down and picking it up especially since I tend to laying it in my lap and it falls down through the cushions. 6 inches long with a knurled handle.

BLT in a wooden storage case - Second favorite because of the calming effect of holding the smooth wood in my hand but still having the advantage of a metal laying tool. Particularly great for "ripping" since I seem to always use the tip of my laying tool to take out and sometimes break the tip of a wooden one. Laying tool and handle measures 5 ¼ inches long, and 6 inches long cased.

Parking spot: I'm a big fan of magnets, but this little gadget is terrific. The magnet is so powerful that it comes with a spacer making it easier to separate the magnets when not in use on your canvas. The black plastic cradle expands to hold and grip any of your stitching tools. Especially effective to hold a wood laying tool as shown and being magnetized, easily holds a metal tool or scissors.

Identi-Pens: Many people have asked me what pen I use to draw canvases and for years, my answers have been the Identi-pen. They're a permanent marker and water-proof which is especially important if your piece requires wet blocking prior to finishing. Available in 8 colors; each pen has a fine point tip and a paint brush tip which is great for changing colors on a canvas as well as coloring in a background when you don't want the white to shop.

Fabric Marker: Air-erasable purple disappearing ink makes this little pen perfect for making "corrections" on a painted canvas or counting a charted design. Lines disappear on blank canvas within 24-48 hours, sooner when used over painted areas, or dab with a damp towel to speed up the disappearing. Before I discovered this pen some of my pictures had 8-9 holes behind them trying to hang a picture in the perfect spot. Now I keep one of these pens in my household tool drawer and measure and mark the spot with the pen before I hammer in the nail. This could be a stocking stuffer for your husband because it marks on many surfaces including wood.
